Finally MSBuild for C++!
Right To Left By host on 11/26/2008
I am glad that MS has finally added support to MSBuild for C++ (http://blogs.msdn.com/vcblog/archive/2008/11/20/printf-hello-msbuild-n.aspx). I hope it is not limited to managed C++ only. I am surprised this took so long. I am somehow not as sucked into MSBuild (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/0k6kkbsd.aspx) as I was to NAnt (http://nant.sourceforge.net/). But this is definitely better than the JAM (http://www.perforce.com/jam/jam.html) build system that Boost (http://www.boost.org/) uses.

Mobile Internet Explorer
Right To Left By host on 11/24/2008
Microsoft has taken forever to get a real browser on windows mobile. Due to the pressure from the iPhone and the Mobile Version of Safari, Microsoft has finally got on the ball. I wonder what this means for all the third party browsers out there? The best coverage on the browser is here: http://nino.net/blog/internet-explorer-mobile-6/

Which Code Generator?
Right To Left By host on 11/16/2008
I have used both Codesmith (http://www.codesmithtools.com/) and MyGeneration (http://www.mygenerationsoftware.com/portal/default.aspx) over the last few years. A bit of code from work is using CodeWorker (http://codeworker.free.fr/) and I’m not sure about that. Then I read that Microsoft has it’s own code generation tool: T4! http://spoiledtechie.com/post/What-Gives-Microsofts-Code-Generation-Tool.aspx http://www.hanselman.com/blog/T4TextTemplateTransformationToolkitCodeGenerationBestKeptVisualStudioSecret.aspx

A cool Java UI
Right To Left By host on 11/5/2008
Back in 2001, I was working on a web based EMR system. We had a problem of displaying terminology that happened to be very hieratical. This is very similar to the start menu in windows or the file explorer. The problem was to present this intuitively on a small mobile tablet device. Although, I didn’t end up using it, I found this: http://www.thinkmap.com/architecture.jsp based on research done at Xerox Park (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xerox_PARC). This would be cool done in flash or silverlight technology. I think it would be interesting to apply this to a family tree application.
