Windows Mobile Smart Phone as an MP3 player?
Right To Left By host on 3/30/2006
I noticed today that when I fast forward a WMA file on my Windows Mobile 5 Pocket PC phone (PPC-6700) more often I get a normal sounding FF as apposed to MP3s that give unintelligible sounds when fast forwarding. It still is not a good experience compared to much cheaper MP3 players.

Microsoft dummy proof my smart phone!
Right To Left By host on 3/30/2006
Several times I have set the volume to 0 and put the phone to vibrate when entering a meeting. Then when coming out of a meeting, I hit the phone button and the phone makes the call but I get no volume! I don’t think anyone would ever want to make a phone call where they have no volume. When I hit the call button it shouldn’t it turn the volume up for me. Interesting enough, in this scenario if I plug in the headset the volume is OK?

Use your laptop as a second screen
Right To Left By host on 3/30/2006
I have used a laptop for my main development machine for years. There are advantages and disadvantages to this. I have used a secondary monitor for a while and it is great. Sort of the reverse is to use your desktop development machine and use your laptop as a secondary screen. That is when you need mazivisa: http://www.maxivista.com/

Creating a Provisional Utility Patent Yourself
Right To Left By host on 3/30/2006
If you are interested in creating a Provisional Utility Patent you can do it yourself for about $75. It may be easier to just get an NDA, but some large companies will not consider an NDA and will only let you document your ideas this way for exceptions to non-competes and intellectual property agreements. I understand in business you can trust no one. But on the other hand companies have to allow for innovation and have a exception process for ideas they are not interested in or in a market they don’t compete in. http://www.uspto.gov/ebc/efs/downloads/efsabx.htm

Video Podcasts on my PPC-6700 Windows Mobile 5
Right To Left By host on 3/30/2006
I listen to a lot of podcasts on my PPC6700 mobile phone because I can do that while I work. I have been saving up videos to watch when I get a chance. One video was from Rory Blyth’s podcast TinyThings. He posts his videos as AVIs, which are very large! Then I found out that Windows Mobile Media Player 10 does not support AVIs! This is crazy. So I found a great solution (http://tcpmp.corecodec.org/download) and it is Open Source! The other video I had was from MSDN TV. The funny thing was that the interview part of the video worked flawlessly. But then when I tried the coding demo part I could hear the audio but could not see the video. Was this because it was encoded at too high a rate? I still haven’t figured it out.
